Students talk about difficulties they have in solving math problems

چکیده
The ability to solve students' mathematical problems cannot be diagnosed clearly just by using test questions; it must also seen looking at responses the problem-solving process. As a result, purpose of this study is investigate skill as well their This descriptive-qualitative in nature. Three junior high schools (SMP) Aceh participated study, with 76 class VIII students serving research subjects. Tests, observations, and interviews were used data collection techniques. Quantitative descriptively analyzed proportions, while qualitative coding. results showed that 25 percent wrote down what was known asked, which an indication problem comprehension; 21 able devise strategies; 15 had done calculations correctly. correct, 11 checked answers again. Based on given students, there some difficulties experienced when solving math problems, namely difficulty understanding reading texts, terms, making connections, decisions, uncertainty time, carelessness, boredom. findings are expected serve resource for teachers education practitioners developing focus, discipline, patience selecting learning models appropriate needs students.

متن کاملSolving Math Problems Approximately: A Developmental Perspective
Although solving arithmetic problems approximately is an important skill in everyday life, little is known about the development of this skill. Past research has shown that when children are asked to solve multi-digit multiplication problems approximately, they provide estimates that are often very far from the exact answer. This is unfortunate as computation estimation is needed in many circum...
متن کاملWhat we talk about when we talk with medical students.
In this article, we review how we interact with medical students in our efforts to teach blood pressure regulation and systemic cardiovascular control along with related elements of respiratory and exercise physiology. Rather than provide a detailed lecture with key facts, we attempted to outline our approach to teaching integrative cardiovascular physiology to medical students, which includes ...
متن کاملStudents’ Difficulties in Transfer of Problem Solving Across Representations
Studies indicate that the use of multiple representations in teaching helps students become better problem solvers. We report on a study to investigate students’ difficulties with multiple representations. We conducted teaching/learning interviews with 20 students in a first semester calculus-based physics course. Each student was interviewed four times during the semester, each time after they...
متن کاملStudents’ Errors and Difficulties for Solving Problems of Sampling Distributions by Means of Computer Simulation
This paper reports results the main errors and difficulties experienced by a group of eleven university students when solving problems of sampling distributions by means of computer simulation using Fathom software (Finzer et al., 2002). The main difficulties were the formulation of the population model, the definition of the statistics to be calculated in each sample and the definition of the ...
